Whitepaper: Available soon.
This paper will explain our approach more in detail, including case study examples and a comparison with other methods.
Summary: Advantages and Disadvantages
Here is a short summary of advantages and disadvantages, more details will be provided in the Whitepaper.
Advantages
The most pertinent aspect of our approach is that all CyBOK-related information is available online, accessible either through the CyBOK Online website or using a direct public Dynalist link.
In particular, this provides integrated access to the mapping information contained in the various CyBOK mapping reference documents. Mapping hence requires fewer sources to process and tables to complete, compared to previous approaches.
Furthermore, manipulating the information resulting from queries, whether they are in the context of mapping or otherwise, is possible based on the tree-operations of the online outliner.
Another advantage arises when using the Dynalist mobile app, as it gives a user the ability to view and query the CyBOK Online on a smartphone. This is an extremely useful feature when being on the move or in any other setting where a computer might not be available.
Disadvantages
Online outliners are different to other word processing tools, and novice users might experience an initial learning curve.
All information is presented in form of a hierarchical tree, and a table-based layout is not supported.
In order to be able to switch between mind-map view and the outline-based view requires a Dynalist Pro subscription, for an individual user to purchase.
Displaying the CyBOK Online Mapping Reference in an expanded view might lead to performance issues in some browsers, in particular on a mobile device.
